Chris’s Heart Attack Survivor Story: “Adjusting to our new normal”

Chris: I was at my brother's house. It was May 21st of 2018 and I remember being at the table just talking and woke up in the hospital. I found out I had another cardiac arrest. I have a little bit of brain damage, so sometimes I don't think right or I forget really easily. As long as she's around, she's what keeps me going.
Simone: The first cardiac arrest event, he was without oxygen for 15 minutes. He is a walking miracle. When we went back to the doctor the first time, I said, "When is he going to be normal again?" And the doctor said to me, and I'll never forget this, he said, "Simone, he wasn't supposed to live. We've never had anybody like him live so I don't know what's going to happen next." So it changed our lives. I did become the caretaker. We have a lot of animals and that hasn't changed. It's like that commercial you see the new normal, you just have to fit the new normal into your life.
Chris: I didn't think I could ever come out of my depression, which was pretty bad in the beginning. But, if you have family and friends, they're willing to help you, then the sky's the limit. I mean, you can come through it.
