Christine’s Heart Attack Survivor Story: “The emotional journey is the hardest part”

Speaker 1: I was 45 years old when I had my event. And there was really no answers of what caused my heart attack. I didn't have heart disease in my family. I didn't have high cholesterol. I didn't have high triglycerides.

It's scary. I'm always going to have that anxiety in the back of my head. You have your friends and your family that know what you went through, but they don't completely understand. I think finding the emotional part is the hardest part.
[00:00:30] I reached out to an online group and I met this wonderful person. And I said to her, "There's no support group here in Berks County. We really need to do something." And she said, "Let's do it."

We started the first women's support group in our county, to find other survivors and reaching out to them, that went through the same experience and helping each other get through it, is so important. And I think as my support group grows, I grow.

Christine’s Heart Attack Survivor Story: “The emotional journey is the hardest part”

Christine was 45 years old when she had her heart attack. Without prior family history or conditions that she knew about, her heart attack came as a complete shock. Like many survivors, Christine was struggling with her emotions after her heart attack. For her, connecting with someone who really understood her experience was tough. But she didn’t let that stop her.

Christine is now a co-founder of the first women’s heart attack support group in her county, and she’s a part of the Survivors Have Heart community.
