What brought me here today was a friend of mine told me about the survivor story. And I had never given it a thought that I was actually a caregiver. Being that I am Hispanic with that comes a lot of traditions and roles. And at that time, daddy was the breadwinner daddy was the sole provider of the family and the head of household. When he had his heart attack and then subsequently he had six bypasses, I was a young girl I was 24. And I took on some major responsibility that now I think about now and I didn't realize how much I took on. So I learned that diet is a very important, exercise is very important and all the things that go with trying to stay healthy, rest and sleep. Now, my father is still alive he's 87 years old and now we have a different situation but he has survived, he is truly a survivor.
